Hokaai on the N2

Dit is soms maklik om dikwels verby 'n plek te ry en nooit die moeite te doen om daar te stop nie. So ry ek gereeld op die N2 tussen Albertinia en Mosselbaai, verby 'n gebou wat Boerekos adverteer.

(Moenie dat die "geen ingang" teken jou afsit nie, dit is vir die aftrek plek vir vragmotors bedoel)

Ek maak uiteindelik 'n plan om een dag daar te stop vir middagete en kan myself skop dat ek dit nie al lankal gedoen het nie. Die kos is uitstekend, ruim porsies en uitstekende waarde vir geld!

Jy kies jou hoofgereg, wat lekkernye soos frikkadelle, varktjops, lamtjops, hoenderschnitzel, of viskoekies insluit. Dan arriveer 'n houtbord met bruin en wit blikkiesbrood met konfyte, botter en kaas. Dan kom daar 6 bakkies met slaaie, ordentlike slaaie, nie kropslaai met 'n paar skyfies tamatie nie. Hierna volg 4 bakkies warm groente, regte moeite groente, groenbone met aartappel, murgpampoen met brood, kapokaartappels, ens. Laastens kry jy jou bord met jou hoofgereg op, in ons geval: 2 Stewige skywe schnitzels, 2 reuse frikkadelle met sous en 3 viskoekies.

Die maal word afgesluit met regte egte moerkoffie, sakkie en al.

Spookasem

So, we finally visited Spookasem, only to learn they will be closing their doors on 31 March 2016.


Cute nik-naks, previously loved items and large choice of gorgeous teas all in a lovely garden setting.

Radical Raptors

Radical Raptors offers educational displays of mostly injured raptors who cannot return to the wild.

They have one "employee" who clears pigeons off the roof at the George Provincial Hospital.
There is a lovely coffee shop (try the cheesecake), shops selling olive products and items made of wood as well as a gift shop.  Also visit the cheese shop and nursery.
Charlie the owl is just magical and surprises all with his silent flight abilities!

Barney the barn owl wins the cutie prize though!

 

 

 

 

 

Robbenisland

When in South Africa this is a must-see island. 
The tiny size of the cell was a shock.  In the words of my daughter: "Was this a jail for boys?"


Some advise..the trip is long..rather take the earlier booking and leave at least an extra hour than planned.  A few tourists ran the risk of missing their flights as the trip took longer than expected.

Middle window was Mr Mandela's cell.

Brown Hooded Kingfisher Hiking Trail

The Brownhooded Kingfisher trail is a short but beautiful 5km hike.
To reach the trail take the turnoff opposite Kleinkranz and follow the road for 2.4km across the rail way. It starts out tar and becomes a dirt road. The trail basically follows the Duiwe river and ends in a lovely waterfall with pool. It is a lush green hike with mushrooms in all colours and lovely trees. Birdsong follows wherever you go. Be sure to take plenty of photos!
